After the release of the album « Everything » by SMOKE, here comes Q-TAPE RECORDS second reissue. A very rare LP by doublebass player LEROY VINNEGAR.
A self made musician, LEROY VINNEGAR stamped his personnal touch on a lot of recordings from the begining of the 50’s : from Stan Getz to Sonny Rollins including Roy Ayers, Eddie Harris and Les Mc Cann.
His trademark, the « walking bass » (which consists in playing a crotchet on each beat) gained him the nickname « the walker ».
In 1974, LEROY VINNEGAR, putting aside his usual collaborations, closed himself away in a studio to work with the pianist Dwight Dickerson, guitar player Barry Zweig, drummer Carl Burnette and perucsionist Al Williams.
Surrounded by heaps of food and beverages, the 5 musicians recorded this LP, which is the result of many live sessions.
The 8 tracks of the record sum up the festive atmosphere of the live sessions and explore many different atmospheres. « The Kid » & « Doin’ That Thing », with their psychedelic choruses of synthetisers, « damn my feet hurt » with its syncopated guitars bordering on the blues, « Reservation » (sampled by DJ Shadow on UNKLE’s 1st LP)a great moment of cosmic jazz, « iah que linda » between bossa and easy listenning …
Yet the record is far more than a display of technical skill : it shows polished melodies played by a group in perfect harmony.
Once again the sound and artwork restauration has been carried out to the highiest quality.
